Proper Usage

Our silicone is all high-quality, 100% food grade as defined by 21 CFR 177.2600. As such, it is safe for contact with your herbs, your lips, and for using as a smoking receptacle.

As confirmed by the Government of Canada, [pure] silicone does not produce any hazardous fumes. Any report of hazardous fumes released in silicone samples stems from lower quality, non food-grade silicone. Our silicone is 100% food grade - heat and chemically stabilized.

Depending on your herbs and smoking habits, burning embers can reach temperatures above 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which can damage the filters. Ensure that you do not allow these embers to come into contact with the filter tip with methods below.

How can I avoid the embers touching the filter tip?

Those final rips are by far the toughest on your lungs - when the herbs are burnt most of the way down, there is no space through which the smoke can cool before reaching your lungs. A couple of pro tips to avoid this hot air and embers contacting the tip:

  1. When you roll, pack a separate, filler herb such as mullein or chamomile right next to the tip. This way, you can put it out when you hit the filler herb without worrying about wasting valuable herb or hurting your lungs.
  2. Rip until there is about an inch between the herbs and the burning embers. Then, pull the tip out about a half an inch from the paper. This leaves a space of air between the filter and the herbs. The herbs will avoid contacting the tip, and there will be a space for the smoke to cool off before hitting your lungs.

How do I put out the roach without letting the embers touch the Zentip?

Pinch the ZenTip at the end of the filter tip by the herbs. While pinching over an ashtray, roll the filter tip between your fingers. This will allow the herbs to fall out. Silicone is a heat insulator, so as long as you only touch the Zentip, you will not be burnt.

How many times can I reuse Zentips?

If you are properly using and caring for your tips, we can confirm that Zentips last at least 100 uses. After 100 uses, we recommend retiring the Zentip and purchasing and using new ones as we have not tested past that point.

How often should I clean my Zentips?

To prevent staining, your Zentips should be cleaned with dish soap and water after each use. When they are used often without cleaning, some stains may become permanent. The tips can still be used as long as the cleaning tool is used to clear the internal channel(s) and there is no physical damage to the tip.

How do I clean my Zentips?

Start by clearing the channels of the Zentip with your cleaning tool or a similar tool (pipe cleaner), careful not to poke the silicone.

If you have a cleaning container (sealable bags also work), fill that container with warm water and dishsoap. Add your Zentips, and shake for 30 seconds to a minute. Adding Epsom salt can help remove more stubborn stains. Remove filter tips and rinse thoroughly under warm water.

Zentips are dishwasher safe! Clear the channels first and ensure that they are secure when using in the dishwasher.
