All about weed hangovers

It may not always be easy to admit, but weed hangovers hit a lot of us.

Last year, I transitioned from an everyday smoker to just a weekend toker. I wanted to be efficient early in the morning, but when I smoked right before bed, I would wake up groggy with brain fog, so I was restricted to smoking on weekends. Over the past few months, I have discovered methods that allow me to smoke when I want without interfering with my day.

Check out the article below to learn how I coped with the brain fog so that it did not impede me from having a productive day after smoking.

What is a weed hangover?

When you consume THC, sometimes the impact of the THC on your body is strong and causes your mind and body to feel slightly "off" the morning after consuming cannabis. THC and CBD both bind to neurons, and this can have lingering effects that impact the next day. Below, we will look into how to mitigate the effects of THC on our minds the next day.

How to cure a weed hangover

It has been shown that cognitive abilities do not decrease in the following 48 hours of cannabis consumption, so we can be confident weed hangovers are a barrier we can hurdle.

The best remedies for a cannabis hangover range from stretching in the morning to slightly changing your consumption habits, and the strategies outlined below will certainly help you overcome this state of mind.

Below, we will break down the different approaches to getting rid of the brain fog that accompanies a weed hangover.

How can I get rid of brain fog from a weed hangover?

To cure brain fog from cannabis, you can stretch immediately after waking up, drink black tea or yerba mate, take a cold shower, and alter your cannabis consumption habits.

  • Stretching: Stretching increases blood flow throughout your body, and will help get more oxygen to your brain for more activated thinking.
  • Drinking black tea or yerba mate: Black tea and yerba mate are healthy ways to intake caffeine that morning without dehydrating too much.
  • Take a cold shower: Introducing your body to the cold helps your body reset itself, leading to increased blood flow and dopamine production. Ideally, you should work your way up to a three-minute-long cold shower.
  • Alter your cannabis consumption: The higher the THC content, the more likely you are to get a hangover. Higher CBD content will help counter the THC. Edibles tend to lead to worse hangovers because the THC stays in your system longer. Along with that, we highly recommend adding other herbs, such as mullein, chamomile, or lavender, to your rolls to buffer the THC content. See below for more tips.

Other ways to get rid of weed hangovers completely

We strongly recommend learning how to roll your own joints. Before learning how to roll, I was not able to customize my consumption, and I was restricted to poor-quality pre-rolls.

If you struggle with rolling, check out these filter tips that make rolling substantially easier, quicker, and more consistent.

  • Add filler herbs to your rolls: Mullein is good for your lungs and helps joints burn at a lower temperature. This is a buffer to the higher THC content so that the hangover doesn't hit as hard.
  • Smoke earlier in the evening: If you light up right before bed, THC can have a more potent impact on your sleep and REM cycles, which are important for high-quality sleep. Try to light up at least 2 to 4 hours before you plan on going to sleep.
  • Exercise first thing in the morning: Along with stretching, morning exercise will get your blood flowing and raise your dopamine and serotonin levels. This helps diminish the effects of THC on your body throughout the day.
  • Avoid edibles: THC tends to remain in the body for a longer period of time than smoking. So if you consume edibles, decrease your intake amount significantly or take them even earlier than if you were to smoke.

If you are committed to lighting up during the week but don't like the brain fog the next day, you can get rid of a weed hangover by taking care of yourself. It's important to take care of our physical and mental states to ensure a strong mental capacity throughout the day.
