Standard 1 1/4 vs. King Size Rolling Papers
Basic Differences: Standard 1 1/4 and King Size Papers
Rolling papers are generally offered in a handful of sizes. The most common sizes used are standard 1 1/4 papers and king size. Below, we will discuss how much flower fits in each, their best uses, and some tips about how to optimize your sessions.
Size and Typical Uses
Standard 1 1/4 papers are 76-78 mm long and are generally used for quicker sessions.
King size papers are 110 mm long and are generally used for longer sessions and infused joints, such as hash holes.
How Much Flower Fits in Each Rolling Paper?
The amount of cannabis your joint holds depends on both the paper size and the filter tip size.
The following chart shows how many grams you can fit with the following paper size and tip combinations.
Paper Size | 8 mm tip | 10 mm tip | 12 mm tip |
Standard Paper (78 mm) | 1 gram | 1.6 grams | 2.3 grams |
King Size Paper (110 mm) | 1.5 grams | 2.5 grams | 3.6 grams |
Standard papers work well for joints between 1 and 2 grams. They are convenient for quicker sessions and great for mobility.
King size papers work best when you want a longer, more enjoyable session. They are also the most ideal for infused joints, such as hash holes.
King Size Papers and Hash Holes
If you are looking to branch out from classic joints, a hash hole is the way to go. It can be a bit intimidating to roll your own hash hole, but they are pretty simple to roll, and well worth the effort.
A hash hole, or donut, is a joint with a cylinder of concentrate centered in the flower. So when you light it and rip it, when you look down the center, you see flower encircling the concentrate, making the "hole" or the "donut" shape.
King size papers work best for hash holes because they:
- leave room for a clean, centered donut
- allow for more airflow
- give a longer burn time to fully enjoy the hash hole
It is possible to roll a hash hole with standard papers, but it's a bit tight and easy to roll a joint that doesn't burn evenly. So for your first hash hole, pick up some king size papers and a 10-12 mm filter tip and get rolling!
Wrap Up
When choosing between standard papers and king size papers, decide how big of a joint you'd like and try rolling with that. It's best to give them both a shot if you have the chance; it's a good practice to try rolling with different sized papers and tips.
